Gominjeong "4.27 5th Anniversary... Our People Who Love Peace Must Live Together"

Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Ko Min-jung raised her voice on the 5th anniversary of the April 27 Panmunjom Declaration, saying, "We must advance the peace process on the Korean Peninsula."

On the 27th, Ko posted on her social media, "I remember the day in 2018 when the South and North Korean leaders held hands at Panmunjom and pledged peace. It was a dreamlike time filled with hope that there would be no more war on the Korean Peninsula and a new era of peace would begin." Along with this post, a photo was shared showing Ko’s back as she gazed at Baekdusan Cheonji.

She expressed concern, saying, "The current situation on the Korean Peninsula is escalating into a crisis so severe that it makes the memories of that day seem meaningless. North Korea’s missile provocations and threats are intensifying, and news has come from Washington, where the South Korea-U.S. summit is being held, about the deployment of a U.S. strategic nuclear submarine to the Korean Peninsula."

Ko emphasized, "Learning from the Ukraine war, we must advance the peace process on the Korean Peninsula through 'dialogue and cooperation,' not 'hostility and confrontation.' Our people have lived together for 5,000 years and have been separated for 70 years. As a peace-loving nation, we must live together."

On the same day, former President Moon Jae-in also stated in his commemorative speech for the 5th anniversary of April 27, "The situation on the Korean Peninsula has become more unstable and the intensity of the crisis has increased more than ever due to the escalating confrontations and the unstable international situation. South and North Korea, along with the United States, must make efforts together to restore dialogue."
