[Mania] "Adjust suction power to floor level"... Tried the smarter Samsung 'Bespoke Jet AI'

When vacuuming over a carpet, it is often inconvenient as the carpet sticks to the vacuum cleaner. If the suction power is set too low, it feels like the dust won't be fully sucked in, but if set too high, the carpet keeps sticking and cleaning becomes difficult. This often led to the thought, "It would be great if there was a vacuum cleaner that automatically adjusts the suction power."

Samsung Electronics' newly launched 'Bespoke Jet AI' this year alleviates such concerns for consumers. We borrowed Samsung's new product, which "applies an AI mode that determines the cleaning environment and implements optimal suction power," and used it for about three weeks.

First, the vacuum cleaner's control buttons were simple. It consisted of only three buttons: plus, minus, and power, making it easy for anyone to use without having to learn complicated controls. The LCD display on the handle showed the suction power mode along with the remaining battery life when that mode was in use. There were five modes in total: Normal, AI, Strong, Ultra Strong, and Jet.

The AI mode was particularly eye-catching. When set to AI mode, it recognized changes in floor environments such as hardwood floors, carpets, or mats, and adjusted the suction power stronger or weaker accordingly. When cleaning a hardwood floor and then moving onto a mat, the suction power changed along with a message saying, "Optimally cleaning according to the usage environment." Even when briefly lifting the vacuum, the suction power noticeably decreased, which could be heard. It adjusted suction power during lifting to save battery.

At the front of the head, an LED light continuously illuminated, allowing dust in dark or hidden corners of the house to be seen and cleaned. However, the vacuum head was small, making it difficult to clean a wide area at once. While the slim and lowered head allowed the product to reach difficult corners, the narrower width meant having to go back and forth multiple times over the same area, reducing efficiency.

The battery had a high capacity of 2200mAh, allowing about 60 minutes of use in normal mode, but the time was significantly shorter when using Jet mode. In Jet mode, cleaning could be done for up to 15 minutes, which felt quite short, but since Jet mode is not used frequently, using Strong or Ultra Strong modes felt sufficient. Having an extra battery charged allowed for much longer use, so there was no worry about the vacuum turning off during cleaning.

The integrated Clean Station also became more powerful. The Jet series gained popularity for automatically emptying dust collected in the vacuum into the Clean Station. This new model also features an integrated Clean Station that serves as a stand for the cordless vacuum while managing charging and dust emptying simultaneously, making it convenient to use. It is especially attractive as it eliminates the stress caused by dust scattering when emptying the dustbin after cleaning. Notably, this time a rotating cyclone was applied to the Clean Station, allowing even hair tangled inside the dustbin to be thoroughly expelled. This greatly reduced the hassle of having to manually remove long hair caught inside the dustbin.

It was also convenient that the dust bag could be replaced easily by slightly pulling the outer cover. Replacement frequency varies depending on usage environment, but in the reporter’s case, after about three weeks of use, only about one-third of the dust bag was filled. The product status indicator light notified the replacement time with a red light, so there was no need to check the inside of the dustbin manually.

The two types of mop functions were also appealing. One used disposable mop pads, and the other used a water spray mop brush. The disposable mop pads had the advantage of being thrown away after use, so there was no need to wash additional mop cloths. The water spray mop brush allowed water to be filled in a water tank and attached to the brush, enabling direct spraying of the necessary amount of water during cleaning to prevent the mop from drying out.

It is also exciting that in the first half of this year, through a software update, the SmartThings service will notify incoming calls on the LCD display and pause operation when the phone rings during cleaning.
