Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief So Byeong-yong) announced on the 27th that it has produced the fourth comic in a series on water leisure safety titled "Navigation Rules Water Leisure Activity Participants Must Follow" to raise safety awareness among water leisure activity participants and prevent safety accidents as the peak season for summer water leisure activities using recreational equipment arrives.

Created in accordance with Article 18 of the Water Leisure Safety Act on navigation rules, this comic explains the navigation speed and methods prescribed by presidential decree when operating water leisure equipment. It aims to prevent accidents by encouraging the use of all appropriate means?visual, auditory, and others?to adequately assess surrounding conditions and the risk of collision with other water leisure equipment.

The comic covers key points such as ▲operating water leisure equipment at speeds of 10 knots or less within 20 meters of each port, mooring area, or bridge, or in hazardous zones ▲strict prohibition of any actions that threaten people along the coast using water leisure equipment ▲prohibition of navigation when visibility is limited to within 500 meters due to fog or other conditions, among other precautions to raise awareness during leisure activities.

Additionally, while navigation of water leisure equipment is prohibited during storm warnings, activities using equipment like surfing that rely solely on waves or wind are allowed after reporting the activity on the Water Leisure Comprehensive Information website.

Violations of the navigation rules will result in fines of 100,000 KRW for the first offense, 200,000 KRW for the second, and 300,000 KRW for the third.

A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, “For accident prevention during water leisure activities, it is most important that participants take personal interest and conduct thorough safety checks,” adding, “We hope everyone always checks the weather in advance and approaches leisure activities with heightened awareness of safety.”
