The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) announced on the 27th that six more confirmed cases of Mpox (monkeypox) have been reported domestically within a day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 40.

All six newly confirmed cases are Korean nationals. Four of them reported themselves to the KDCA call center (1339) after developing suspected symptoms. The other two were confirmed through reports from medical institutions. Their places of residence were identified as Seoul (3), Incheon (1), Gangwon (1), and Daegu (1).

Among the six, five had no overseas travel history within three weeks before symptom onset, suggesting community transmission. The remaining one was classified as an imported case due to confirmed exposure risk in Japan.

Their main symptoms included rash, fever, and lymphadenopathy, but the KDCA explained that their overall condition is relatively good.

The health authorities are conducting detailed epidemiological investigations on the infection routes and contacts of the confirmed cases. To minimize additional occurrences, they plan to strengthen risk communication by actively promoting symptom awareness and reporting, producing and distributing prevention guidelines, and providing guidance and instructions to high-risk facilities to block further transmission.
