ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance, referring to the three core elements aimed at achieving sustainability by focusing on environmental management, social responsibility, and transparent governance in corporate activities.

The support targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies located in Gumi City that have registered factories and require ESG supply chain management and transition. Companies will be selected based on high scores after evaluation.

The application period is from April 28 to May 12. Companies wishing to apply can check the announcement on the Gyeongbuk Economic Promotion Agency website and submit their applications accordingly.

In November last year, Gumi City formed a 'Public-Private Joint ESG Council' with the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters and major companies to play a leading role in spreading ESG practices to SMEs. In March this year, it was designated by the government as the first local government nationwide to establish the 'Gumi City Carbon Neutral Support Center' at Kyungwoon University to support customized energy transition for companies.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, "To ensure sustainable growth of companies and respond to ESG regulations, we enacted the first ESG management support ordinance in Gyeongbuk Province and launched the ESG management establishment support project this year. We will continue to actively support local companies to enhance their global competitiveness.”
