The Gyeongsangnam-do Province's urban railway network construction plan, submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, has been finally approved.
Gyeongnam Province announced on the 27th that the plan, submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in January last year, was finally approved on the 26th after review by the National Transportation Committee, and will be officially announced by the Ministry on May 1.
According to the Urban Railway Act, the construction plan, established every 10 years, focuses on ▲strengthening connectivity between regions within the city through urban railway construction ▲activating public transportation by providing balanced railway services ▲and establishing a practical urban railway network plan considering fiscal realities.
According to the province, with the plan confirmed, a total of 1.7552 trillion KRW will be invested in constructing an urban railway network spanning 101.63 km across six lines within the province.

원본보기 아이콘This plan, the first urban railway network construction plan established by the province, includes three lines in Changwon City (Changwon City Lines 1 to 3) and three lines in Gimhae City (Gimhae City Lines 1 to 3).
The Changwon City lines are ▲Changwon City Line 1 (Masan Station to Changwon Central Station, 15.82 km), which connects Gyeongjeon Line Masan Station and Changwon Central Station to improve accessibility and connectivity with external traffic, ▲Changwon City Line 2 (Changwon Station to Jinhae Station, 19.28 km), which utilizes the Jinhae Line to connect Gyeongjeon Line Changwon Station, Changwon Technovalley, and the Jinhae district, and ▲Changwon City Line 3 (Wolyeong Square to Jinhae District Office, 33.23 km), which links major traffic congestion areas in Changwon City.

The Gimhae City lines are ▲Gimhae City Line 1 (Jangyu Station to Suro Royal Tomb Station, 9.38 km), connecting the planned Jangyu Station on the Bujeon-Masan double-track railway and Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit Suro Royal Tomb Station, ▲Gimhae City Line 2 (Jangyu Station to Yulha District to Jangyu Station, 15.8 km), which circulates within the Jangyu district and connects to Jangyu Station, and ▲Gimhae City Line 3 (Sinmundong to Bonghwang Station, 8.12 km), connecting the Gimhae Tourism Distribution Complex and Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit Bonghwang Station.
Kim Young-sam, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, said, “With the approval of this urban railway network construction plan, the foundation for promoting urban railway projects to expand public transportation infrastructure has been established,” and added, “We will focus our efforts on promptly carrying out various administrative procedures such as preliminary feasibility studies to ensure the expansion of urban railway infrastructure in Gyeongnam.”
