The Jeonju Film Festival is lifting its 24th curtain and beginning a ten-day film celebration.
On the 27th at 6:30 PM, the opening ceremony of the 24th Jeonju Film Festival will be held at Moak Hall in the Jeonju Korean Sound Culture Hall. Actors Jin Goo and Gong Seung-yeon will host the event.
On this day, Executive Committee Chairman Jung Joon-ho, along with Jin Goo, Gong Seung-yeon, Lee Soo-hyuk, Ok Ja-yeon, Shin Hyun-joon, Lee Dong-hwi, and other actors and directors will walk the red carpet. In addition, many film professionals including jurors and directors will attend the opening ceremony to illuminate the festival.
The opening film is "Tori and Lokita" by the Dardenne brothers, the 'masters' directors (Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne). The film tells the story of siblings Tori and Lokita, who want to protect each other and become guardians for one another as they live and survive together. It received the Special 75th Anniversary Award at last year's Cannes Film Festival.
This year, 247 films from 42 countries (125 international and 122 domestic) will be screened. There are 66 world premiere films. The festival will meet audiences at 23 theaters across 6 screening venues in downtown Jeonju. Thirty-eight Korean short films will also be available on an online platform.
The Dardenne brothers will visit Jeonju to meet the audience, and the film "Moon Jae-in" directed by Lee Chang-jae, who directed "This Is Roh Moo-hyun," will be unveiled.
During the festival, 'Alley Screenings' will be held in various streets such as Film Street and Dongmun Street, and there will be special exhibitions celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) and East Asian cinema.
The 'Jeonju Cine Tour,' which combines Jeonju's tourist resources with films, will also be introduced. Through programs like 'Jeonju Film X Walk,' which combines landmarks and films, 'Jeonju Film X Meeting,' a place to communicate with independent film actors, and 'Jeonju Film X Music,' which incorporates live music into films, the festival will engage with citizens.
The closing film is "Where Do You Want to Go?" directed by Kim Hee-jung. This film, adapted from the short story of the same name by writer Kim Ae-ran, depicts the mourning time of Myeong-ji, whose husband, a middle school teacher, suddenly died in an accident. Actors Park Ha-sun and Kim Nam-hee star in the film.
The 24th Jeonju Film Festival, opening on this day, will be held until the 6th of next month around Jeonju Film Street.
