POSCO E&C announced on the 27th that it has signed a business agreement with DNV, the world's largest offshore wind power certification company based in Norway, to cooperate on domestic offshore wind power projects.
DNV, established in Norway in 1864, is the world's leading wind power certification company. Certification from companies like DNV is required to carry out offshore wind power projects.
POSCO E&C will receive know-how from DNV on integrated load analysis for optimizing fixed and floating offshore wind structures, certification processes, risk management, improving design data quality, and reducing operating costs. They also plan to explore joint participation in offshore wind power projects to accelerate their eco-friendly energy business.
Recently, with the European Union (EU)'s European Green Deal policy advancing to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, growth in the offshore wind power industry is expected. In South Korea as well, wind power is gaining attention as one of the power supply options to realize carbon neutrality by 2050.
The POSCO Group has selected seven core businesses that can contribute to the sustainability of future society and is promoting growth based on eco-friendly infrastructure through offshore wind power projects linked to the Green New Deal.
On Sang-woong On, Head of Infrastructure Division at POSCO E&C, said, “When the operational know-how of DNV, the global leader in offshore wind power certification, is combined with POSCO E&C’s business capabilities including construction and energy, a win-win synergy will be created for both companies.”
