A man in his 50s who kidnapped a woman sleeping in a vehicle and stole her bag was arrested by the police.
The Sacheon Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 27th that they have apprehended and are investigating a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of confinement and theft for kidnapping a woman sleeping in a car and stealing her bag.
Mr. A is accused of stealing the bag of a woman in her 20s, Ms. B, who was sleeping inside a car parked on the street in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, around 3:30 a.m. on the 22nd, and kidnapping her by placing her in a vehicle he had stolen earlier.
It was revealed that Mr. A stole an unlocked car from a street in Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, around 1:50 a.m. that day, then traveled to Sacheon, where he saw Ms. B sleeping and committed the crime.
Ms. B was deeply asleep at the time and was unaware that she had been kidnapped in the car.
Afterward, Mr. A drove to Uiryeong County, stopped the car, opened the passenger door, and woke Ms. B, who, startled, went to a nearby police center and reported the incident.
The police confirmed that Mr. A took a bus bound for Masan, passing through Busan, Daegu, and Changnyeong, and arrested him on the afternoon of the 26th as he got off the bus.
The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant and investigate whether there are any additional crimes.
