Contributing a Decisive Role in Solving Cases through Rapid Tracking of Suspects in Various Crimes Including Drug Distribution
Protecting Residents' Safety with 5,398 CCTVs Monitored 24/7
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has recently been contributing continuously to crime prevention and suspect apprehension through real-time monitoring of CCTV at the Smart Integrated Control Center.
The district has installed and operates 5,398 CCTVs in 1,677 crime-vulnerable locations within the district, including areas around schools, residential alleys, and parks, to ensure residents' safe living.
This is the second largest scale among Seoul's autonomous districts.
On February 4th at around 2 p.m., a report was received about "a man wandering around in a dazed state" in a residential area of Sillim-dong. The district immediately monitored the surrounding CCTVs, transmitted the suspect's photo and location to the Gwanak Police Station situation room, and, through close cooperation with the police dispatched to the scene, arrested the suspect. Investigation revealed that the man was working part-time distributing drugs for his livelihood. The control operators who played a decisive role in solving the case received a letter of appreciation from the Gwanak Police Station.
"I thought that if we did not quickly apprehend the suspect, additional incidents could occur, so I am proud to have helped solve the case," said a Gwanak-gu control operator.
The district also greatly contributes to the rapid apprehension of crime suspects. On April 18th, upon receiving a police cooperation request regarding an incident where a suspect broke into a massage parlor, threatened with a weapon, and stole a cellphone, the control operator tracked the suspect's movements within 4 minutes, enabling the swift arrest of the fleeing suspect.
Additionally, by identifying suspects' appearances and escape routes, the control center has played a decisive role in ▲apprehending minors who lured victims via prostitution apps and extorted money ▲arresting hit-and-run suspects, among others.
Through the control operators' meticulous 24-hour monitoring, last year the district conducted 30,533 security activities and safety responses, including 379 violent crimes, 29,993 minor offenses, and 161 disaster/fire incidents, playing a major role in protecting community safety. As of March this year, a total of 11,702 security achievements have been recorded, including drug-related, theft, violence, missing persons, arson, and intoxicated person protection cases.
Furthermore, by the first half of this year, the district plans to enhance crime prevention and safety by upgrading the performance of 157 outdated CCTVs and expanding the intelligent CCTV selective monitoring system.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, "I appreciate the efforts of the control operators who always do their best for the safety of Gwanak residents," adding, "We will do our best to create a safe Gwanak not only by expanding CCTV installation but also by continuously developing smart disaster safety services and maintaining ongoing cooperation with the Gwanak Police Station."
Gwangjin-gu Conducts Safety Education for Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group and Safety Guards
First Half-Year Safety Training Held on the 27th, Expanded from Once a Year to Twice a Year Starting This Year
16 Outstanding Participants Awarded, Reviewing the Importance of Safety through Disaster Case Studies
Safety! Gwangjin!
The cheers of about 200 people wearing yellow vests echoed through the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium.
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the 2023 first half-year joint safety education on the 27th for the Gwangjin-gu Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group and the 3rd term Safety Guards.
The district operates the ‘Gwangjin-gu Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group’ and ‘Safety Guards’ in cooperation with the private sector to prepare for and respond to disasters.
Before the training, awards were presented to 16 outstanding members who have worked with passion and dedication to create a safe Gwangjin.
Following this, the training began with videos reviewing recent disaster case types. The importance of the roles of the autonomous disaster prevention group and safety guards during disasters and step-by-step action guidelines were emphasized, providing a moment to reflect on their roles as guardians of daily safety.
The ‘Gwangjin-gu Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group’ consists of 400 members, including 359 individual members and 41 group members. They conduct monthly disaster safety patrols by region, focusing on ▲inspecting hazardous facilities in disaster-prone areas ▲responding to natural disasters such as heavy snow, heavy rain, and wildfires ▲maintaining emergency contact systems with related agencies and guiding resident evacuation during emergencies ▲disaster prevention campaigns ▲regular meetings, all dedicated to Gwangjin’s safety.
The ‘3rd term Gwangjin-gu Safety Guards’ total 46 members who use the Safety Newspaper app to report violations of safety rules. They promptly report and thoroughly follow up on issues such as ▲illegal parking ▲blocked emergency exits and stored items ▲road damage ▲broken security lights ▲damaged bollards, and other hazards.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu said, "Safety, which is directly related to life, is more important than anything else. We are reassured by the autonomous disaster prevention group and safety guards who volunteer on the ground for safety," adding, "The district will devote itself to making Gwangjin a safe environmental city."
