Eleven people, including police officers, were killed by a bomb planted by a suspected rebel group in central India.
Indian media outlets such as NDTV reported on the 26th (local time) that 11 people, including 10 police officers and one driver, died in a bomb attack by a suspected rebel group in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh state in central India.
These individuals belonged to a police special forces unit and were returning from an operation against Maoist rebels when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near the vehicle carrying the police personnel, causing the incident.
The Maoists are an extreme left-wing group in India that follows Chinese Communist Party leader Mao Zedong and began their activities in the late 1960s with the goal of building a communist society.
They operate in western Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, eastern Odisha, and northern Bihar, continuing guerrilla warfare while claiming to fight for indigenous tribal people.
