Gyeongnam Governor Park Wansu: "Will Discuss Rural Issues with 137 Cooperative Heads"

Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, attended the 2023 Gyeongnam Nonghyup Communication and Harmony Festival held at the Rivera Convention in Changwon on the 26th.


According to Gyeongnam Province, Governor Park shared the provincial government’s direction for the development of agriculture and rural areas with Nonghyup union heads in the Gyeongnam region during the event.


During the dialogue between the governor and the union heads, he answered questions about the provincial agricultural policies and listened to difficulties and suggestions related to the operation of local Nonghyup branches.

The governor said, “Nonghyup union heads are local leaders and responsible figures who influence the daily lives of residents,” adding, “Beyond Nonghyup’s primary duties, please fulfill your role in regional development, including addressing population decline and revitalizing the community.”


He continued, “I will work together with the Nonghyup union heads to address various issues facing rural areas, which are on the brink of a population cliff due to recent aging and declining birth rates.”


The event was hosted by the Nonghyup Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters and attended by about 220 people, including officials from the Nonghyup Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters and city/county branches, as well as 137 union heads elected in the 3rd nationwide simultaneous union head elections within the province.


Gyeongnam Province is promoting various agricultural policies to foster agriculture as an important future industry and to create livable and prosperous farming and fishing villages, including ▲ alleviating the burden of agricultural material prices and increasing real income ▲ supporting young farmers’ settlement and expanding smart farms ▲ supplying rural labor timely and appropriately 365 days a year ▲ expanding safety nets against agricultural disasters ▲ and expanding agricultural product exports.
