The Democratic Party condemns Min Hyung-bae's reinstatement as "disregard for common sense and conscience... a hideous true face"

Independent lawmaker Min Hyung-bae to rejoin Democratic Party on 26th
'Trick resignation' controversy during 'Prosecutorial Reform' legislative process

The People Power Party criticized independent lawmaker Min Hyung-bae, who had sparked controversy over a ‘cunning resignation,’ as ‘shameless’ after he rejoined the Democratic Party on the 26th.

Jeon Ju-hye, the floor spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a statement that day, “No matter how much ‘shamelessness’ is said to be in the DNA of the Democratic Party, the party, which had consistently ignored Lee Jae-myung’s shield and the money party convention, now seems to have completely thrown away common sense and conscience.”

Min resigned from the Democratic Party in April last year during the legislative process of the ‘Complete Removal of Prosecutorial Investigation Rights’ (검수완박, Geomsu Wanbak) and was assigned to the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee as an independent, sparking controversy over a ‘cunning resignation.’ This was a measure taken considering the possibility that the Geomsu Wanbak bill would be referred to the committee for agenda adjustment. The agenda adjustment committee is composed of three members from each party: three from the Democratic Party, two from the People Power Party, and one independent. Min joined as the independent member. The People Power Party criticized this as a ‘cunning resignation.’

Spokesperson Jeon emphasized that the Democratic Party should apologize to the public. He said, “The Democratic Party and lawmaker Min Hyung-bae should first apologize to the people,” adding, “Instead of apologizing, the Democratic Party lied by saying ‘the Constitutional Court did not find the disguised resignation problematic,’ which is the height of shamelessness and shows contempt for the people. The public, who have witnessed this entire process, will surely judge them.”

Kang Sa-bin, the deputy spokesperson for the People Power Party, also said in a statement, “Min’s shameless return without any apology or reflection clearly reveals the ugly truth of the Democratic Party,” and added, “He left home, wreaked havoc in the neighborhood committing all sorts of misdeeds, and returns without a single apology, and yet is welcomed with open arms.”

Kang further stated, “The act of pursuing only political gain while destroying the rule of law will be recorded in history as a mistake of the Democratic Party along with Min’s reinstatement,” and “Before that, it will also be recorded as the worst party that excluded bipartisan cooperation and destroyed parliamentary democracy.”

Kim Byung-min, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, also criticized on his Facebook that day, “While the Democratic Party is mired in the money envelope scandal of the party convention, they have thrown another bomb called ‘Min Hyung-bae’s reinstatement,’” and added, “At this rate, I guess we will soon hear news that former leader Song Young-gil, who resigned as if it were a major declaration, will also rejoin.”

Jang Ye-chan, the youth supreme council member of the People Power Party, also pointed out on Facebook, “Let today be marked as the day of the 4.26 disguised resignation, and it should be a lasting shame,” and said, “The shamelessness of the Democratic Party has created yet another dark chapter.”
