Stop Illegal Banners Now! Gumi City Creates Clean Street Culture ... LED Electronic Display Installation

Gumi City, true to its identity as an advanced IT industrial city, has installed eco-friendly LED electronic display boards as an alternative to traditional banner stands at two locations: Gwangpyeong Five-way Intersection and Okgae Underpass Intersection. This reflects the increasing demand for administrative publicity and aims to create a pleasant and beautiful urban environment by eradicating illegal roadside banners.

The electronic display boards use LED screens and function as a type of electronic banner. They help prevent the indiscriminate proliferation of illegal banners, thereby contributing to the improvement of the city’s aesthetics and emerging as an alternative to traditional fabric banner stands.

The advantages of electronic display boards go beyond this. Unlike fabric banners, they have shorter advertising wait times, better visibility at night, offering a comparative advantage in advertising effectiveness. They also help prevent environmental pollution caused by waste disposal and reduce disposal costs.

The LED electronic display boards are installed through a BTO (build-transfer-operate) revenue-type private investment project. Each board features a screen size of 12㎡, a structure height of 8.24m, and 180,000 pixels, boasting excellent visibility for displaying electronic banners. This eco-friendly advertising medium addresses the drawbacks of traditional banner stands, such as detachment and disposal costs, and tearing during strong winds.

The LED electronic display boards operate daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., for 23 hours. The advertising ratio is 20% public service announcements and 80% commercial advertisements, with 25 slots allocated per household. The broadcast format displays still images for at least 9 seconds. Until April 30, during the pilot operation period, 100% of the content will be dedicated to city administration promotions and public service announcements, including the National Sports for All Festival and the attraction of the Gyeongbuk Disaster Safety Experience Center.

Hong Kyunghwa, Director of the Urban Regeneration Division, stated, “With the installation of these electronic display boards, we expect expanded advertising opportunities for local small business owners and diverse lifestyle and cultural information, including city administration promotions and public service announcements, for citizens. We hope this will lead to a reduction in indiscriminate illegal banners on the streets, creating a clean and safe street environment.”
