Gwangju Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (President Jo Ik-moon) will hold various public events to celebrate the 19th anniversary of its opening on the 28th.
On the 27th, labor and management representatives will hold a ‘Labor-Management Joint Public Transportation Promotion Campaign’ at Sangmu Station, expressing gratitude to subway users and giving out souvenirs to encourage the use of public transportation.
Together with Beautiful Store and the Gwangju Sustainable Development Council, the corporation will hold a resource circulation program called the ‘Give and Spring!’ event, providing citizens who donate five or more items with bright spring flower mini pots.
Cultural events such as the ‘19th Anniversary K-Culture Celebration Show’ will also be held abundantly at Sangmu Station.
While talented artists volunteering on the subway art stage perform lively shows, corporation employees will hold a talent donation event where they create beautiful calligraphy of citizens’ wishes as gifts.
Additionally, special exhibitions will be held: ‘Everyday is a Gift’ by artist Han Eun-hye at Sangmu Station, and the ‘Amnesty-Magnum Photos’ photo exhibition at Kim Dae-jung Convention Center Station.
At each station, officials from sister schools and people with disabilities will participate as ‘One-day Honorary Stationmasters’ to share the daily life of Gwangju Metropolitan Rapid Transit, and various events including souvenir giveaways will be prepared at each station.
Online events are also abundant. By finding the number ‘19’ within Gwangju subway facilities, taking a verification photo, and uploading it to the corporation’s blog, 30 people will be selected by lottery to receive beverages.
Moreover, a metaverse event will be held where participants capture a screen of their visit to Gwangju Metropolitan Rapid Transit on the metaverse platform ‘Zepeto’ and submit it to the blog, with gifts awarded by lottery.
President Jo Ik-moon said, “To mark the 19th anniversary of the opening, we have prepared various events to express our gratitude to the citizens,” adding, “We will continue to take the lead in realizing a brighter tomorrow for Gwangju through the promotion of public transportation use.”
