Kim Hyo-joo aims for victory at the LA Championship.
On the 25th (local time), Kim Hyo-joo expressed confidence at the official press conference for the LPGA Tour JM Eagle LA Championship (total prize money $3 million) held at Wilshire Country Club (par 71, 6,447 yards) in Los Angeles, California, USA, saying, "I have played many practice rounds on this course," and "Since this is not the first time I am playing this golf course, I think it’s okay. I remember the entire course."
This tournament features 144 players competing in a 72-hole stroke play format to determine the winner. The winner’s prize money is $450,000. Kim Hyo-joo previously participated in the 2018 LA Open held on this course but missed the cut. She explained, "When I played in the tournament once before, the results were not very good," and added, "I thought the course didn’t suit me, so I didn’t participate again, but at that time my shots were not going well, so it felt difficult." She continued, "After playing a round today, I feel relieved that it’s not as bad as I had thought before," and said, "I approach every tournament with the goal of finishing in the top 10."
Regarding her strategy for the course, Kim Hyo-joo said, "Overall, the greens on this golf course are somewhat small," and added, "I think I will pay a lot of attention to getting the ball onto the greens." Kim Hyo-joo will play alongside Anna Lin and Lin Xiyu (China) in the first round starting on the 27th.
