The 'Gumi Natural Gas Power Plant' construction project, promoted by Korea Western Power, is a large-scale project with a total budget of 693.2 billion KRW. Kumho Construction will solely undertake the power plant construction with a total construction cost of 224.5 billion KRW. Construction began this month and is scheduled for completion in December 2025.
The construction of the 'Gumi Natural Gas Power Plant' is a project to replace the aging Unit 1 of the Taean Coal Power Plant in Taean-gun, Chungnam, with a new natural gas power plant. Upon completion, it will become the first 500MW-class liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant in Korea to replace coal power generation.
The natural gas power plant will be located in the Gumi High-Tech Valley National 5th Industrial Complex to align with the government's expansion of distributed power sources. Kumho Construction expects that after completion, it will reliably supply electricity to nearby industrial complexes and various industrial facilities.
Kumho Construction is also responsible for the construction of the 'Gumi Natural Gas Power Plant Supply Facility Installation,' which connects the 'Gumi Natural Gas Power Plant' to the existing natural gas pipelines. Kumho Construction plans to unify the two projects and successfully complete the construction.
A Kumho Construction official stated, “We prioritize safety above all and aim to build not just the first but the best power plant in the country,” adding, “We will successfully complete this project and become a leader in natural gas power plant construction.”
