Gyeonggi Province is expanding economic exchange and cooperation with the state of Florida, USA.

Gyeonggi Province announced that Governor Kim Dong-yeon held a trade and investment partnership event with Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul on the 26th to expand exchange and cooperation, and both sides agreed to strengthen economic cooperation between the two regions.

Governor Kim said to Governor DeSantis, "Gyeonggi Province accounts for one-quarter of South Korea's economic scale and is a growth engine. It is necessary to establish an active economic cooperation relationship with Florida, which is a hub of cutting-edge innovative industries such as aerospace and bio." He proposed, "Let us form an innovation alliance in strategic industries such as bio-industry and solar power technology research cooperation."

He also requested support for the Busan Expo bid along with cooperation on the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program, which allows young people from Gyeonggi to receive training at universities located in Florida.

Governor DeSantis is currently leading an international trade delegation touring South Korea, Japan, Israel, and the United Kingdom, meeting with business and government leaders in each country to explore ways to expand economic cooperation with Florida.

The trade and investment partnership event on this day proceeded with discussions on expanding exchange and cooperation between Governor Kim and Governor DeSantis, followed by a breakfast briefing involving companies from both regions.

In particular, the breakfast briefing included introductions to the investment environments of Gyeonggi Province and Florida, as well as exchanges between companies to promote trade and investment.

Eighteen companies from Gyeonggi Province, which have the intention and capacity to invest in Florida, participated.

Gyeonggi Province established a sister-state relationship with Florida in November 2000 and maintained active exchange and cooperation, but exchanges were suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

After holding a video conference in June last year to resume relations with Florida, a delegation from the Florida Investment Corporation visited Gyeonggi Province in October of the same year. In February this year, exchanges resumed with the hosting of a Gyeonggi-Florida Week webinar on business and investment environments in Florida.

Gyeonggi Province expects that exchanges and economic cooperation between the two regions will increase significantly through this trade and investment partnership event.
