Gyeonggi Province has decided to provide operating expenses to communities practicing carbon neutrality and is recruiting participating communities until the 12th of next month.
The province announced on the 26th that it will select 13 participating communities this year and support operating expenses ranging from 3.5 million to 10 million KRW annually, depending on the size of the community.
Participating communities will establish reduction targets compared to their current greenhouse gas emissions and operate awareness improvement, lifestyle practice, and efficiency improvement programs tailored to the community's characteristics according to carbon neutrality types (energy, transportation, resource circulation, etc.).
The province will support costs for devices needed for the standby power cut-off campaign, promotional materials, and signage required for designating healthy stairs.
Eligibility requires a community of at least 10 households or 30 people, such as in residential areas, commercial districts, or schools.
Applications can be submitted by email to the Gyeonggi Sustainable Development Council, a support organization of Gyeonggi Province, at ggag@hanmail.net by the 12th of next month.
After evaluating project plans and execution capabilities at the end of May, the province will select participating communities and announce the results through the Gyeonggi Sustainable Development Council website (www.ggag21.or.kr).
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of the province, stated, "If a culture of practicing carbon neutrality is established so that local residents can voluntarily engage in greenhouse gas reduction activities such as using reusable containers and saving energy, it will help achieve carbon neutrality and overcome the climate crisis."
