Gim Yonghyeon, Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly Member, "Gumi City and Integrated New Airport Traffic Infrastructure Must Be Improved"

Gyeongbuk Provincial Council's Questions on Provincial Administration

Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Culture and Environment Committee member Kim Yong-hyun (People Power Party, Gumi) pointed out issues regarding the development of Geumosan Provincial Park, improvement of transportation infrastructure between Gumi City and the integrated new airport, establishment of a pediatric and adolescent medical system, and the integration of kindergartens and daycare centers during the provincial government questioning session at the 1st plenary meeting of the 339th extraordinary session on the 25th, urging for countermeasures.

Regarding the development of Geumosan Provincial Park, Assemblyman Kim stated, “Gumi’s Geumosan, called Wabulsan (臥佛山) or the Geumgangsan of Yeongnam because its reclining shape resembles a Buddha, is a sanctuary for citizens and a representative tourist attraction in Gyeongbuk. However, citizens and tourists suffer great inconvenience due to traffic congestion and insufficient infrastructure such as poor rest facilities.”

Assemblyman Kim further urged, “Gyeongbuk Province should take direct action to transform Geumosan Provincial Park into a premium provincial park, and Gumi City should spare no support to open a new era with the new airport and soar once again as a cultural tourism hub city.”

To this end, he advocated for the promotion of eco-friendly cable car installation, expansion of the circular road, creation of walking trails, and landscape improvement, and emphasized the need to expedite the development of tourism resources linked with the Nakdong River, the Gumi Industrial Complex representing modernization history, and the birthplace of President Park Chung-hee.

He also stated, “Once the integrated new airport opens, it is obvious that a bottleneck will occur due to the sharp increase in traffic volume such as air cargo transportation,” and stressed, “Measures should be prepared to ensure that the upgrade of Local Road No. 927, currently a two-lane road, to a national highway and its expansion to four lanes are definitely reflected in the ‘6th Five-Year Plan for National and Local Roads.’”

He continued, “Efforts should be made to start the preliminary feasibility study early and actively strive for the selection of the ‘Bukgumi IC-Gunwi JC Highway’ project as a preliminary feasibility study target so that it can open before the integrated new airport,” and emphasized, “Regarding the ‘Gimcheon-New Airport-Uiseong Railway Construction Project,’ measures should be prepared to ensure that the ‘Gumi Sagok-New Airport’ section is included in the ‘5th National Railway Network Construction Plan.’”

Assemblyman Kim pointed out, “There are three specialized pediatric and adolescent medical centers in Pohang, Gumi, and Gyeongju within the province, but due to a shortage of pediatric specialists, their operation is insufficient,” and stated, “A revolutionary change in Gyeongbuk’s pediatric and adolescent medical system is necessary.”

Kim, who said, “Improvement of the pediatric and adolescent medical system is urgently required so that children can receive treatment without worry even when they are sick,” proposed the establishment of a Gyeongbuk-type pediatric and adolescent medical system, including a duty system for existing pediatric clinics, operation of a specialized medical call center for children and adolescents, and nighttime medical services at public medical centers.
