The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will conduct a focused crackdown on vehicles violating the stop requirement when making right turns from April 22 to May 21.
According to the provincial police agency, the three-month grace period following the related law amendment on January 22 has ended.
The police urged all drivers to come to a complete stop when the front traffic light is red before making a right turn.
They emphasized that even if a driver has already started turning right after stopping at the signal, they must immediately stop if there are pedestrians crossing or intending to cross the crosswalk.
At intersections with right-turn traffic signals, drivers may only turn right when the green arrow is lit; violating this rule will result in a fine of 60,000 KRW for passenger cars.
A provincial police official stated, “Stopping when turning right at intersections is essential for pedestrian safety, so we ask drivers to strictly follow traffic regulations,” adding, “The police will also conduct promotional activities alongside enforcement to ensure drivers understand and comply.”
