On the 25th, Choi Won-ki, former Executive Director of Lotte Hotel Lotte World Tower, became the 8th Director of the Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation.
According to Gyeongnam Province, the newly appointed Director Choi is a theme park expert who worked at Seoul Lotte World for 33 years since 1988.
Until recently, he served as the head of the observatory division, responsible for overall facility management from planning to opening of the Lotte World Tower observatory, Seoul Sky.
The Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation is currently facing issues such as losing a lawsuit for payment claims upon contract termination with a private business operator and normalizing the phase 2 project.
Since early this year, Gyeongnam Province and the foundation, which have been searching for a new head, finalized the candidate on the 6th and requested personnel verification from the Gyeongnam Provincial Council.
The Provincial Council adopted a progress report through public personnel verification, stating that Director Choi, based on his expertise and experience in theme park operations, is expected to contribute to revitalizing the Robot Land theme park.

Director Choi plans to prioritize turning the Robot Land theme park into a profitable operation, raising this year’s visitor target to over 700,000 and focusing on promotional activities.
Additionally, to fulfill Robot Land’s core role of creating a robot market and completing the robot content space, he plans to utilize various domestic and international robots for hands-on experiences, linking education, promotion, and sales among business operators into a business platform.
He stated, “I will concentrate my efforts on normalizing the Robot Land development project and resolving pressing issues such as establishing a growth foundation for the Gyeongnam robot industry. I will strengthen promotion not only in the Gyeongnam and Jeolla regions but nationwide, and provide differentiated content services through projects to enhance robot content, making Robot Land recognized as a festival and a landmark of change in the Gyeongnam area.”
He added, “Through the ongoing service robot common platform construction project, we will increase support for companies and focus on discovering new robot industry business models through eco-friendly robot business infrastructure projects. By linking with Gyeongnam’s excellent manufacturing technology, we will establish a foundation for Robot Land to become the center of domestic and international robot production and business.”
Regarding the activation of the phase 2 project, he emphasized, “We will reorganize the project direction and actively seek and attract substitute operators with a new private investment business plan that reflects social trends.”
Kim Byung-gyu, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, said, “The Robot Land Foundation is preparing to fully implement strategies for revitalizing the theme park and robot industry, so the role of the newly appointed director with experience and capability is crucial. We hope that efforts will be made to transform Robot Land into a new content destination that meets the expectations of residents and the entire nation.”
