Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has decided to strengthen cooperation with the French nuclear company Orano to train specialized personnel for nuclear power plant decommissioning. Orano is a comprehensive nuclear company responsible for the entire nuclear fuel cycle operation and nuclear power plant decommissioning.
On the 25th, the two companies revised their mutual cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the field of nuclear power plant post-management at KHNP's headquarters in Gyeongju. KHNP had signed a mutual cooperation MOU with Orano in 2017 to secure overseas advanced experience and exchange information regarding nuclear power plant decommissioning, radioactive waste, and spent nuclear fuel management.
With this MOU revision, the two parties agreed to further solidify cooperative projects for training specialized personnel. In particular, they plan to more actively carry out dispatching domestic technical personnel to overseas sites related to nuclear power plant decommissioning, inviting expert instructors for training, and providing expert technical consulting.
Kwon Won-taek, Director of the Nuclear Power Plant Post-Management Division at KHNP, stated, “KHNP will continue to expand mutual cooperation with excellent overseas companies in the field of nuclear power plant post-management to enhance the expertise of domestic technical personnel and ultimately strive to advance decommissioning technology.”
