'Staging' Connecting Cable to Fuel Filler Cap

A Carnival car owner who used a trick by pretending to charge and even plugging in the cable to park in an electric vehicle charging zone is drawing public outrage from netizens on the 25th.

Recently, posts titled 'Carnival electric car in the parking lot?' and 'Carnival electric car spotted' have been shared on online communities. The author wrote, "I wondered if the Carnival vehicle was an electric car, but it was just parked as if it was charging," attaching a photo.

In the photo, the car owner staged the scene by connecting a cable to the fuel filler to make it look like an electric car is charging. However, the Carnival is only available in internal combustion engine models such as gasoline and diesel, and there are no electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models yet.

This is presumed to be a trick to avoid reporting and enforcement after parking in the electric vehicle charging zone. A fine of 100,000 KRW is imposed if a regular internal combustion engine vehicle parks in an electric vehicle charging zone.

Parking of gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and other vehicles is prohibited in electric vehicle charging zones. Even electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) must move once charging is complete. In other words, it is a charging zone, not a parking lot.

Netizens who saw the post criticized the car owner with comments such as "This is real science. It never disappoints," "Crazy but dedicated," and "Carnival, the fine generator."

Meanwhile, according to the Electric Vehicle Charging Interference Prohibition Act, a fine of 100,000 KRW is imposed for ▲parking a regular car in the electric vehicle charging zone ▲continuing to park after charging an electric vehicle (1 hour for fast charging, 14 hours for slow charging) ▲placing objects around the charging zone and interfering with charging, and a fine of 200,000 KRW is imposed for ▲damaging charging facilities and marking lines.
