Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will operate the ‘2023 Elementary Students Online Dokdo Classroom 1st Program’ for 20 sixth-grade classes in elementary schools within the district from the 25th to May 26.
This program aims to properly inform elementary students about the history of Dokdo, our country’s territory, and to enhance their understanding of Dokdo’s territorial rights amid the recent serious forced claims by Japan over Dokdo sovereignty.
Operating since October last year, this program is a collaboration between the Busan Office of Education and the Dokdo Volunteer Guard Memorial Hall. It also provides vivid, expert-led education tailored for elementary students in real-time online sessions.
On designated dates, students connect online with their homeroom teachers to learn about the importance of Dokdo together with a curator from the Dokdo Volunteer Guard Memorial Hall. Workbooks for the class are delivered to each class before the lesson.
In the program titled ‘Samsaho, the Sea Route to Dokdo,’ students learn about the history of Ulleungdo and Dokdo with the theme of ‘boats.’ They also understand the role of ‘Samsaho,’ the supply ship of the Dokdo Volunteer Guard, as well as the dedication and patriotism of the Dokdo Volunteer Guard.
Ha Seung-hee, Director of the Elementary Education Division at the Busan Office of Education, said, “We are operating this program to properly teach that Dokdo is our country’s territory,” and added, “We will continue to prepare systematic and professional Dokdo educational materials suitable for students’ levels in cooperation with related organizations.”
The Busan Office of Education plans to operate the 2nd program for 20 fifth-grade classes in elementary schools from October 4 to October 27.
