The meeting began with a welcoming speech by Yumi Hogan, wife of former Maryland Governor, who said, "As we mark the 120th anniversary of Korean immigration history and the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance, the visit of the President and First Lady to the US is truly an important occasion." President Yoon emphasized, "The United States regards the Korea-US alliance, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, as extremely important," and explained, "This is evidence that the two countries are the best partners sharing universal values such as freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, and practicing solidarity in the international community based on these values." He also forecasted the development of the Korea-US alliance. President Yoon added, "We want to create a groundbreaking and historic milestone of an alliance that goes beyond the current alliance to become a forward-moving, action-oriented alliance for the future."

Referring to Dr. Seo Jae-pil and President Rhee Syngman, he said, "The Washington area is a historic region where Dr. Seo Jae-pil studied medicine in the late 19th century, and President Rhee Syngman also laid the foundation for the establishment of the Republic of Korea by forming the Provisional Government’s military committee." He urged the Korean community in Washington, at the heart of American politics, to continue playing an important role in advancing the rights of Korean Americans and the development of Korea-US relations. He promised, "The government will, centered on the Overseas Koreans Office, qualitatively and quantitatively grow the global network of 7.5 million Koreans while connecting the overseas Koreans and the motherland more closely."
