Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) will hold the Lavender Festival, the symbol of purple flowers, on Purple Island from the 19th to the 28th of next month.
According to the county on the 25th, this is the first time the festival is being held, and a French lavender garden has been created on 35,000㎡ of Parkji-do on Purple Island, boasting the largest scale in the country.
Starting with the opening ceremony, various events and experiences such as sales of agricultural specialty products, promotion of Matissum brand products, busking performances, lavender hair wreath and bouquet making are planned.
Purple Island was selected as the UNWTO World’s Best Tourism Village and was jointly chosen as the ‘2023 Spring Island You Want to Visit’ by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Islands Promotion Agency.
It is a must-visit place for anyone who loves the color purple. Word of mouth has already spread, and it has become a trend for families, couples, and groups to wear matching purple clothes when visiting Purple Island. Since the Purple Island proclamation ceremony on August 13, 2021, about 700,000 tourists have visited.
On Purple Island, the purple flower sanctuary, flower festivals will be held according to the seasons, starting with the Lavender Flower Festival in May, the queen of seasons, followed by the Willow-leaved Loosestrife Flower Festival in June, and the Aster Flower Festival in September.
Governor Park Woo-ryang said, “In May, the month of family, we hope visitors will have a healing time with the scent of purple flowers in the lavender garden. Purple Island is ready to welcome tourists with purple flowers all year round,” and added, “We hope everyone visiting Purple Island will wear purple clothes and join together.”
