Samsung Electronics announced on the 25th that it conducted a lights-off event at its domestic and overseas business sites in observance of Climate Change Week. The lights were turned off for 10 minutes over two days. This saved energy and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. It is explained that the amount of energy saved is equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by about 770 pine trees in one year.

Earth Day was established on April 22, 1970, following the 1969 oil spill incident in California, USA. Since 2009, the Ministry of Environment has designated the week around Earth Day as Climate Change Week and has conducted nationwide lights-off events. This year, the event is held from April 21 to 27 under the theme "Today, I Saved the Earth Again."

Ten domestic business sites of Samsung Electronics and 44 overseas subsidiaries in the United States, Europe, China, and Southeast Asia turned off their lights for 10 minutes at 8 p.m. on April 21 and 22. Subsidiaries such as Samsung Electronics Sales, Samsung Electronics Service, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Samsung Medison also took part.
Samsung Electronics reported that it is estimated to have saved about 3,410 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of energy during the campaign period. When converted to greenhouse gases, the energy savings correspond to a reduction of 1.786 tCO2-eq (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent). This figure is similar to the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by about 770 pine trees in one year.
