On the 25th, Yongin City announced that it purchased three eco-friendly electric street sweepers, each costing 210 million KRW, and deployed them across three districts in Yongin.
The electric street sweepers will clean back roads and narrow streets where large sweepers cannot enter, focusing on areas around Jungang Market in Cheoin-gu, the old downtown near Singal Five-way Intersection in Giheung-gu, and the commercial district of Pungdeokcheon in Suji-gu.
These sweepers can operate for 8 hours on electric batteries, enabling efficient cleaning of residential back roads inaccessible to medium and large sweepers. Additionally, their high dust collection capability is expected to help create a comfortable urban environment free from fine dust.
The sweepers, one allocated to each of the three districts, will begin operation at the end of this month. The city plans to review expansion plans based on the results of this pilot project conducted this year.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "The electric street sweepers are a new concept of cleaning vehicles that can thoroughly clean every corner of back roads and narrow streets where conventional large sweepers cannot enter. They are eco-friendly vehicles with no exhaust emissions and minimal noise." He added, "Thanks to these eco-friendly electric street sweepers, small roads in Yongin, including the alleys around Jungang Market, will become much cleaner, providing freshness to citizens and enhancing Yongin’s image."
