The 'New Suwon Committee,' which will research and investigate major policies and tasks of Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province and check and evaluate the progress of the 8th term elected mayor's pledge projects, has been launched.

On the 24th, Suwon City announced that it held the appointment ceremony for the New Suwon Committee at the city hall's medium conference room. Mayor Lee Jae-jun awarded appointment letters to 80 appointed committee members. The term of appointment for the members is two years.

The New Suwon Committee, chaired by Mayor Lee Jae-jun, will be responsible for ▲research and consultation on major policies and current issues ▲evaluation of pledge project implementation ▲policy development based on city administration research and investigation.

The committee is composed of an operating committee, special committees, and subcommittees. The operating committee oversees and coordinates the affairs of the subcommittees, while the special committees provide recommendations and advice on policy and current issues or matters related to two or more subcommittees.

The subcommittees consist of six divisions: ▲Economy (corporate attraction and fostering, job creation, regional economic revitalization, etc.) ▲Welfare and Women (social welfare, women-friendly policies, multiculturalism, integrated care, health, etc.) ▲Safety and Urban (safety, urban planning, urban regeneration) ▲Environment and Transportation (carbon neutrality, eco-friendly policies, transportation, sustainable city) ▲Culture and Education (culture and sports, youth and adolescents, education) ▲Autonomy and Communication (local autonomy, innovative administration, cooperation governance, village autonomy).

The operating and subcommittees hold two regular meetings annually, and the chairperson may convene extraordinary meetings if deemed necessary.

Each subcommittee has finalized the pledge projects they are responsible for, and in July, they will evaluate the progress of the 8th term elected mayor's pledge projects on their first anniversary. In August, a general meeting will be held to report on the evaluation of the 1-year pledge projects and select policy development tasks.

After the appointment ceremony, the committee elected Professor Kim Dong-hoon of Hongik University, a member of the special committee, as vice-chairperson.

Mayor Lee Jae-jun said, "The New Suwon Committee will take responsibility alongside me for Suwon's administration and lead Suwon forward," and added, "Please provide your opinions on the policies and administration that the 8th term elected mayor aims for and propose good policies that will benefit the citizens."
