The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency has achieved significant results by arresting a large number of drug offenders.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 24th that after organizing a drug crime task force on the 12th, they arrested 11 people (9 Koreans and 2 foreigners), of whom 4 were detained.
Vietnamese national A (32) was detained on charges of purchasing ketamine worth 900,000 won and using it with companions at a foreigner-only karaoke in Mokpo, Jeollanam-do on March 1.
Vietnamese national B (29) was detained on charges of buying 6 ecstasy pills on the 3rd and possessing 143g of synthetic marijuana worth about 28 million won (enough for 476 people to use simultaneously) at his home and vehicle.
Korean national C (23) was detained on charges of purchasing methamphetamine worth 600,000 won through Telegram and using it at motels and other locations.
The police confirmed that there is a widespread drug distribution and usage network among Vietnamese nationals entering the country and are continuing to track down the drug crime group.
Currently, 64 people related to 55 drug crime cases have been identified and are under investigation, and during the special crackdown period since last month, a total of 27 people (11 detained) have been arrested.
A police official stated, "We have identified that smuggling, distribution, and usage of narcotics are spreading extensively, so we are conducting focused crackdowns," and added, "We urge citizens to actively report any suspicious activities."
