"Saemaeul Undong Expands Globally Together with Changwon Special City"

The Saemaeul Association of Changwon City, Gyeongnam, held a commemorative ceremony for the 53rd anniversary of the Saemaeul Movement's founding and the 13th Saemaeul Day under the theme "Saemaeul Movement Again, Together with the World" at the Changwon Saemaeul Hall at 2 p.m. on the 24th.

At the ceremony, over 200 attendees including Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Kim I-geun, Chairman of the Changwon Special City Council, distinguished guests, and current and former Saemaeul leaders gathered for awards to outstanding leaders, commemorative speeches, and words of encouragement.

During the event, 29 Saemaeul leaders who have contributed to the Saemaeul Movement and the development of Changwon Special City were awarded Saemaeul commemorative medals, commendations from the Central Association President, the Governor and Provincial Saemaeul Association President, the Mayor of Changwon Special City and Chairman of the Special City Council, as well as commendations from the Changwon Saemaeul Association President.

Saemaeul Day was established as a national commemorative day in 2011 to encourage public sympathy and participation in the Saemaeul Movement, which began in 1970 and has been continuously promoted, and this year marks its 13th anniversary.

Hong Pan-chul, Acting President of the Changwon Saemaeul Association, said, "I thank the frontline Saemaeul leaders who have actively engaged in various volunteer activities despite their busy livelihoods," adding, "As the largest volunteer organization in Changwon City, the Saemaeul Association must proactively respond to rapid social and environmental changes such as the climate crisis with the vision of 'Saemaeul Movement Again, Together with the World.'"

Mayor Hong said, "On the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the Saemaeul Movement's founding and the 13th Saemaeul Day, I thank all the leaders for their dedication and efforts," and added, "I hope you will grow one step further as the meaning of Saemaeul suggests and work for regional development and citizens' happiness."
