Jeong Gi-myeong, Yeosu Mayor, Continues All-Out Effort to Secure National Road Funding

Meeting with Governor Kim Young-rok on the 24th

Request for national and provincial funding support including preparations for the Yeosu World Islands Expo

Jeong Gi-myeong, former mayor of Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, who is working hard to secure next year’s budget, proposed major national and provincial projects to Kim Young-rok, governor of Jeollanam-do, on the 24th. This was his second visit following his visit to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance on the 13th.


On this day, Mayor Jeong held a meeting with Governor Kim at the Jeollanam-do Provincial Office and requested support for urgent projects such as the ‘Sado~Nangdo Ecological Exploration Tourism Resource Development,’ ‘Yeosu World Islands Expo Main Venue Infrastructure Development,’ and ‘Yeosu Municipal Museum Construction.’

In particular, the ‘Sado~Nangdo Ecological Exploration Tourism Resource Development Project’ involves installing a pedestrian bridge and convenience facilities connecting Sado and Nangdo Islands. He emphasized the importance of the project for building tourism infrastructure in preparation for the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo and improving residents’ living conditions.


He also requested special attention and support from Jeollanam-do for the infrastructure development projects at the main venue, including site maintenance and drainage installation, to ensure the successful hosting of the Islands Expo, which is just over three years away.


Along with this, he explained the necessity of establishing a comprehensive dedicated organization for the Islands Expo preparation and stressed the importance and necessity of approving the establishment of the Islands Expo Support Group for next year.


Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, “Securing national and provincial budgets for local urgent projects is of utmost importance to open the ‘Yeosu Bay Renaissance Era.’ We will focus on securing the budget to ensure that major projects for the development of our city proceed without any setbacks by closely cooperating with Jeollanam-do for the successful hosting of the 2026 World Islands Expo.”


Meanwhile, on the 13th, Mayor Jeong visited the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and actively requested support for national projects such as ‘dredging and maintenance of contaminated sediments at Seonso Port,’ ‘road construction from Hwatae to Baekya in Yeosu,’ and ‘construction of the Yeosu~Namhae Undersea Tunnel.’
