Mokpo Coast Guard, Grounded Vessel Incident Near Yuldo Sea Area

Safety Secured for 6 Crew Members Onboard

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) made an emergency dispatch after a vessel ran aground near Yuldo, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do.


According to Mokpo Maritime Police, at 10:16 a.m. on the 24th, a report was received that a 24-ton coastal gillnet fishing vessel A, carrying 6 crew members, ran aground in a shallow water area while entering port after completing fishing near Yuldo, Mokpo-si.

The maritime police immediately dispatched available forces including patrol vessels, the West Sea Special District Unit, and coastal rescue boats to the scene, arranged for private marine rescue vessels, and requested cooperation from nearby fishing villages, making every effort for rescue operations.


At 10:35 a.m., 19 minutes after the accident report, the maritime police coastal rescue boat and the West Sea Special District Unit arrived at the scene, boarded the accident vessel, confirmed that all 6 crew members were wearing life jackets and were safe, and conducted site management along with safety guidance broadcasts to nearby navigating vessels.


All 6 crew members on board the accident vessel were confirmed to be in good health and safety condition, and no flooding or marine pollution occurred on the vessel.


A maritime police official stated, “We will check hazardous areas such as nearby fish farms in preparation for moving the vessel to a safe zone, identify breach points and material damage, and conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident.”
