The Ulsan Office of Education is operating the secondary basic academic skills program ‘Hamkke Han Georeum’ (One Step Together) to responsibly guarantee basic academic skills and support student-tailored subject supplementation.
The secondary basic academic skills program ‘Hamkke Han Georeum’ is designed to help not only students targeted for learning support but all students to gain confidence and a sense of achievement in their academic progress step by step. The program is operated by the Basic Academic Skills Support Team ‘Deohaeba’ (The Happy Virus).
The support team consists of four teachers specializing in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science who have been in charge of basic academic skills for several years, and they plan to be active from this month through December. First, the team will support improvements in teaching and assessment methods to strengthen basic academic skills instruction within regular classes.
They plan to produce and distribute subject-specific casebooks on formative assessments by unit, remedial instruction, and student-centered group activities to middle and high schools in the Ulsan area. The casebooks will utilize materials from the Bae·I·Scamp (Baeugo Iruneun Seuseuro Camp - Learn and Achieve by Yourself Camp) during lessons.
In July, they will hold the ‘Toktok (Talk Talk) Maeum Dudeurim’ (Heart Knocking) Story Show with learning support teachers to find necessary measures for strengthening the capabilities of learning support teachers, improving work environments, and establishing basic academic skills policies.
Through programs such as learning psychology tests and sharing learning coaching methods, they will also prepare comprehensive and systematic support plans for students targeted for learning support to strengthen on-site assistance.
They plan to share solutions and positive experience cases for various problems occurring in schools, as well as share subject-specific basic academic skills teaching strategy cases and various program ideas to support learning gaps.
An official from the Ulsan Office of Education said, “We hope that through the operation of this support team, both students and teachers will have opportunities to move forward step by step together.”
