The action movie 'John Wick 4,' starring actor Keanu Reeves, maintained its top position at the weekend box office for the second consecutive week.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 24th, 'John Wick 4' attracted 316,882 viewers over the weekend (21st-23rd), securing the number one spot at the box office. Since its release on the 12th, the cumulative audience has reached 1,232,036.
'John Wick 4' is an action blockbuster that tells the story of John Wick, who stakes everything for freedom and prepares to strike back by launching a massive war to overthrow the High Table. It is the fourth sequel in the series, created following the popularity of 'John Wick' (2015).
The Japanese animation 'Suzume no Tojimari' attracted 163,553 viewers, ranking second. Since its release on the 8th of last month, 4,924,050 people have watched the film.
The combined audience for the top two films over the past weekend was about 470,000, accounting for more than half of the total audience. The total number of moviegoers who visited theaters over the weekend was 779,029.
Korean films showed somewhat disappointing results. In third place was the basketball movie 'Rebound' (directed by Jang Hang-jun), released on the 5th, which attracted 71,656 viewers. Its cumulative audience reached 599,575. 'Oksu Station Ghost' (directed by Jung Yong-gi), released on the 19th, drew 54,286 viewers, starting off in fourth place.
Fifth place went to the comedy 'Killing Romance,' starring Lee Sun-kyun and Lee Ha-nui; sixth place to the Japanese animation 'The First Slam Dunk'; and seventh place to 'Renfield.'
