Ulsan City Expands Predictive Survey on Pathogenic Vibrio Bacteria Outbreaks

Extension of One Month Until November Due to Rising Water Temperatures

Survey Conducted at 6 Locations Including Beaches and Coastal Tourist Spots

The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute will expand the "Pathogenic Vibrio Bacteria Epidemic Prediction Survey" from April to November to prevent infections caused by pathogenic Vibrio bacteria, which increase during the summer season.

This survey period has been extended by one month compared to last year, considering the rise in seawater temperature.

The survey locations include a total of six sites: three popular beaches (Ilsan, Jinha, Jujeon Mongdol) and three coastal tourist spots (Jujeon Port, Ganjeolgot, Jeongjahang).

The survey targets three types of pathogenic Vibrio bacteria (Cholera bacteria, Vibrio vulnificus, and Enteric Vibrio bacteria).

Pathogenic Vibrio bacteria mainly infect through the consumption of raw or undercooked seafood or shellfish, or when skin wounds are exposed to contaminated seawater.

An official from the Health and Environment Research Institute stated, “If bacteria are detected in seawater, we will notify the relevant district or county to inspect nearby seafood restaurants and food service establishments, strengthen seafood safety management, and promote caution regarding the consumption and handling of shellfish from contaminated areas to actively prevent food poisoning and infectious diseases.”
