The Japanese government is establishing a strategy team to respond to the spread of artificial intelligence (AI).

Yomiuri Shimbun reported on the 22nd that the Cabinet Office of Japan will create an "AI Strategy Team" involving relevant ministries to address the spread of OpenAI's generative AI, ChatGPT.

The AI Strategy Team will hold its first meeting on the 24th to organize various issues related to the use of AI in work and discuss communication and cooperation methods between ministries. It is known that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Digital Agency are coordinating their participation.

Yomiuri pointed out, "Movements to utilize ChatGPT are becoming prominent within the central government," adding, "While improved work efficiency is expected, challenges such as the accuracy of responses and handling of confidential information are also being highlighted."

As the host country of this year's Group of Seven (G7), Japan plans to include in the joint statement at the G7 Digital and Technology Ministers' Meeting, to be held on the 29th and 30th in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, a commitment to strive for the realization of "responsible AI," considering the rapidly evolving impact of artificial intelligence on society.
