On the 20th, known as 'Gogu' in the solar terms, the daytime high temperature in Daegu approached 30 degrees Celsius, with most areas in Daegu and Gyeongbuk recording their highest temperatures of the year.
According to the Daegu Meteorological Office, as of 4 p.m. that day, Buk-gu in Daegu recorded 29.8 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest area in Daegu. Dong-gu recorded 29.4 degrees, and Seo-gu recorded 29.2 degrees.
In Gyeongbuk, temperatures were 29.6 degrees in Gyeongju, 29.5 degrees in Uljin, 29.1 degrees in Pohang, 29 degrees in Gumi, 28.5 degrees in Yeongcheon, 28.4 degrees in Yeongdeok and Uiseong, 28.1 degrees in Cheongsong and Sangju, and 27.5 degrees in Andong.
Both Daegu and Gyeongbuk recorded their hottest days of the year.
The brief heatwave will subside starting from the daytime on the 21st as cold air flows in, causing temperatures to drop by about 5 to 10 degrees compared to today, making them similar to or slightly lower than the average for this time of year.
