A female public official at the Ministry of National Defense is reportedly under police investigation for sexually harassing a subordinate employee.
Ms. A is accused of inappropriate physical contact with subordinate employee Mr. B during a company dinner in January.
The Ministry of National Defense received the victim's report and launched an internal investigation. Determining that the sexual harassment allegations were valid, Ms. A was suspended from her position and the Ministry of Personnel Management was requested to impose severe disciplinary action.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul took over the investigation of Ms. A's case last month. This is because, since July of last year, the Military Court Act was amended to assign investigations of sexual violence crimes within the military to civilian agencies.
The Ministry of National Defense stated, "We will actively cooperate with the disciplinary procedures of the Central Disciplinary Committee and the police investigation going forward."
