The KBS Symphony Orchestra announced on the 20th that it will hold its 789th regular concert at 5 p.m. on the 30th at the Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center.
At this regular concert, Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard will take the baton, and pianist Aleksei Volodin, who continues the lineage of Russian pianism, will perform as a soloist.
Thomas Dausgaard is renowned for personally curating unique concert programs. He has served as conductor for the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, and Swedish Chamber Orchestra, and is currently the principal conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
For this performance, he has chosen symphonies by Danish composers Carl Nielsen and Rued Langgaard to introduce his country's music to Korean audiences.
Notably, Langgaard's Symphony No. 4 "Leaf Fall," performed at this concert, will have its Korean premiere. Often overshadowed by his contemporary Carl Nielsen and nicknamed the "unfortunate musician," Langgaard has recently been reappraised for his works influenced by late Romanticism and experimental attempts.
His Symphony No. 4 is a single-movement piece that metaphorically depicts the cycle of life and death through the season of autumn, filled with grand sounds and intense colors.
Following this, Liszt's "Piano Concerto No. 1," a work showcasing the dazzling technique of Liszt, one of the greatest pianists of his time, will be performed. The soloist, pianist Aleksei Volodin, a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, will return to Korea after five years to display his distinctive delicate touch and technique. In the second half, the concert will feature Nielsen's Symphony No. 4 "The Inextinguishable," a work by Denmark's national composer.
Tickets for the KBS Symphony Orchestra's 789th regular concert are available for purchase through Interpark and the Seoul Arts Center.
