Director Ryoo Seung-wan's new film "Smugglers" is confirmed to be released in IMAX on July 26, distributor NEW announced on the 20th.
Early on, "Smugglers" secured a spot in the summer theater lineup. The film is a maritime crime action story about people who make a living by retrieving smuggled goods thrown into the sea, only to get caught up in a life-changing big game. Actors Kim Hye-soo, Yum Jung-ah, Jo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Kim Jong-soo, and Go Min-si star in the film.
Director Ryoo has long been focusing on visual effects, sound, and audio quality for theatrical screenings. The distributor explained that they are striving to enhance technical perfection so that audiences can fully enjoy the hobby of watching movies in theaters and gain a synesthetic pleasure.
The production company OCN Original, following "Exit" (2019) and "Mogadishu" (2021), is presenting its third IMAX release. The film showcases vast seas, the deep underwater world, actors' performances, and intense action scenes widely spread out.
Christopher Tillman, an executive of IMAX's overseas development and distribution team, said, "'Smugglers' thrilling visuals are best experienced in theaters, and we look forward to audiences enjoying this incredible cinematic experience."
