7 out of 10 Companies Plan New Hiring This Year

Seven out of ten domestic companies have set plans for new hires this year. Among them, six out of ten companies said the scale of new hiring is similar to last year, while two companies plan to increase their hiring compared to last year.

On the 20th, the Korea Employers Federation announced the results of the "2023 New Hiring Status Survey" conducted on 500 companies with 100 or more employees. In the survey, 69.8% responded that they have plans for new hires this year, 17.8% said they have no plans, and 12.4% were undecided.

The largest response regarding the scale of new hiring was that it would be similar to last year at 67%. This was followed by an increase compared to last year at 19.2%, and a decrease at 13.8%. Companies that said they would increase hiring cited "filling vacancies (35.6%)" as the reason.

Regarding hiring methods, 67.4% of companies said they conduct rolling recruitment. Only 7.2% responded that they conduct regular recruitment only.

The biggest change in this year’s hiring market was "strengthened preference for experienced hires (53.4%)," which exceeded half of the responses. Nearly half of the companies (47.8%) also pointed to an increase in rolling recruitment.

When asked about the most important evaluation factor in new hiring, 58.4% of companies answered "job-related work experience." This was followed by personality and attitude (19.6%), job-related major (15.8%), and job-related certifications (5.2%).

A representative from the Korea Employers Federation stated, "Companies consider 'job-related work experience' very important when hiring," and emphasized, "It is necessary for the government to expand financial support so that companies can strengthen the provision of various youth education and training programs as part of ESG management."
