Golf Player Park Hyung-wook Joins Support for Gwangju Seo-gu 'Hometown Love Donation Program'

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 20th that Park Hyeong-wook, a promising male golfer who recently lifted the winner's cup at the 4th tournament of the 2022 Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Srixon Tour, has joined the hometown love donation relay campaign in Seo-gu, Gwangju.


He is the fifth participant following Kia Tigers manager Kim Jong-guk, fencing national representative Kang Young-mi, women's professional volleyball team AI Peppers, and modern pentathlon Olympic medalist Jeon Woong-tae.

Park, who is from Gwangju, said, "The passionate support from the citizens of Gwangju gives me great strength every time I compete," adding, "I hope that the heartfelt support from each individual will become a new driving force for the development of Seo-gu through the hometown love donation campaign."


He continued, "I believe that shining a light on South Korea and Seo-gu, Gwangju through my best efforts in every game is the way to repay the Seo-gu residents who support me and love golf," and added, "I will become a player who delivers good results through continuous effort and challenge."


Park began playing golf at the age of 12, when he was in the 5th grade of elementary school, encouraged by his father, Park Gwang-hyun, the director of Seo-gu Office in Gwangju, and earned his first Taegeuk mark in 2016.


From November 2018 to October 2019, Park Hyeong-wook was active as a national representative and won the 2019 Heo Jeong-gu Cup Korea Amateur Golf Championship.


Meanwhile, the hometown love donation system allows individuals to donate up to 5 million KRW annually to local governments other than their registered residential address. Donations up to 100,000 KRW are fully tax-deductible, and amounts exceeding 100,000 KRW receive a 16.5% tax credit along with gifts worth up to 30% of the donation.


Seo-gu offers gifts such as rice sets, Ma Wang Pie, sesame oil sets, seasoned pork ribs, and mixed beverages as tokens of appreciation.


Donations can be made through the Hometown Love e-um website and nationwide NongHyup Bank branches. The donated funds will be used to improve residents' welfare, promote culture, arts, and health for Seo-gu citizens, encourage civic participation and volunteering, revitalize local communities, support socially vulnerable groups, and foster and protect youth.
