Kakao announced on the 20th, in celebration of Disability Day, that it will launch the “Barrier-Free World” campaign through various Kakao services.
Social contribution platform Kakao Together and Kakao Map will jointly create a special map for mobility-impaired individuals, while Kakao itself will make direct donations for people with disabilities. KakaoTalk and the portal Daum will inform users about the campaign and encourage their participation.
Through the action participation project “Everyone’s Action,” Kakao Together is conducting a campaign with the map service Kakao Map to alleviate the inconveniences that mobility-impaired individuals experience in daily life.
Hong Yoon-hee, director of the cooperative “Muui” and a first-term Kakao Impact Fellow, will serve as an action speaker to propose user participation. The campaign aims to create the “Everyone Can Move Map,” which provides information on accessible locations for mobility-impaired individuals. Users can check nearby wheelchair-accessible restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, accessible restrooms, and ramps, then take photos with their cameras and upload verification shots.
Based on users’ verification submissions, Kakao Map will mark locations accessible to mobility-impaired individuals. When 1,000 user verifications are reached, Kakao will donate 10 million KRW to projects improving mobility rights for people with disabilities. On the Kakao Together website, a fundraising campaign for people with disabilities will also be held. A total of 10 organizations, including the nonprofit Ecological Horizon, Seogu Disabled Protection Workshop, and local welfare centers, will participate. The funds raised will be used for producing audiobooks for the visually impaired, supporting cultural and artistic festivals for people with disabilities, and promoting sports activities.
Users can donate directly to individual fundraising boxes, and Kakao will also donate 1 million KRW to each box, totaling 10 million KRW. When users write comments, send cheers, or share posts at the bottom of the fundraising boxes, Kakao will additionally donate 100 KRW per action.
