One of the eight scenic spots in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, and a famous site of Suwon Hwaseong, 'Yongyeon (龍淵)' has been neatly renovated.
The Suwon City announced on the 20th that it completed the Yongyeon maintenance work, which started last January, and opened it to the public on the 19th of this month.
During the maintenance period, the city repaired the hoanseok (lake shore stones), planted grass around the pond, and installed safety railings and irrigation facilities.
Yongyeon has become a well-known attraction in Suwon City over the past few years, continuously drawing tourists.
As more tourists take photos with Yongyeon and Banghwasuryujeong in the background and spend extended time around the pond, issues such as green space damage and soil erosion have arisen.
Accordingly, the city held a cultural heritage expert advisory meeting in September last year to gather opinions for maintaining Yongyeon. They comprehensively reviewed its identity as a cultural asset of Suwon Hwaseong and its usability as a representative tourist destination of Suwon, and prepared a maintenance plan.
