This support project is a new policy established and implemented by the city for the first time this year to alleviate concerns about diseases, injuries, and safety accidents of adopted abandoned dogs, reduce the economic burden of adopting abandoned animals, and increase the adoption rate of abandoned dogs.

Anyone who adopts an abandoned dog that has completed embedded animal registration at Busan City designated animal protection centers and adoption centers this year can receive support. Applications for enrollment can be made at animal protection centers or adoption centers until December 31, and the insurance period is one year from the date of enrollment.

Once insured, if the adopted animal receives treatment at an animal hospital due to injury or illness, surgery and treatment costs can be covered up to 60% within an annual limit of 10 million KRW through the insurance company.

Additionally, liability for damages caused by the pet to another person’s body or to another person’s pet is also covered up to a limit of 5 million KRW.

The city expects that this pet insurance enrollment support, along with the existing support for animal registration fees, neutering surgery fees, and disease treatment costs for adopted abandoned animals, will revitalize the culture of adopting abandoned animals and serve as an opportunity to further advance as a pet-friendly city.

Kim Byung-gi, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of the city, said, “We hope this support project will not only help more abandoned dogs find new lives but also serve as a chance to establish a mature pet adoption culture.” He added, “Our city will continue to make steady efforts to promote various animal protection policies, such as pet citizen education and animal love cultural festivals established this year, so that Busan can take a leap forward as a pet-friendly city.”
