CJ Foodville announced on the 20th that it will actively establish the foundation for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management this year.
While last year laid the groundwork for ESG management, this year the company will advance the execution system and specify the roles and responsibilities of ESG governance by organization.
Kim Chan-ho, CEO of CJ Foodville, recently sent an email to all employees explaining the key ESG goals and action plans for this year, stating, “ESG activities are continuous efforts that companies and their members must undertake for the global environment, human rights, and mutual development,” and added, “Through this, we can strengthen corporate competitiveness and fulfill our responsibilities and roles to pass on a healthy environment to future generations.”
The ESG governance system under the CEO defines the four core values of ESG management as the ‘4P’ (Carbon Neutrality (PLANET), Human Rights-Centered (PEOPLE), Mutual Development (PARTNER), and Principle Compliance (PRINCIPLE)) and pursues strategic tasks accordingly.
Among these, the human rights-centered and principle compliance strategic tasks are concretized as ▲ strengthening social responsibility based on DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) ▲ and establishing a compliance and ethical corporate culture. The company explained that this expresses the commitment to practicing DE&I values and compliance management, corresponding to the Social (S) and Transparent Management (G) aspects of ESG management.
Specifically, in the Environmental (E) area, tasks for carbon neutrality such as sustainable resource management and efficient use, reduction of food loss and food waste, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions at business sites will continue to be implemented.
In the Social (S) area, the company will expand female employment for gender equality, increase youth hiring and employment of socially marginalized groups to enhance their economic independence and opportunities for social participation. Especially this year, CJ Foodville will newly establish governance and direction for human rights management systems and strengthen safety management systems for production facilities and employees. Additionally, to increase farmers’ income and expand sales channels, the company will continue to develop win-win products in cooperation with local farms, and plans to expand visits to military units nationwide to realize the value of shared prosperity with local communities.
In the Transparent Management (G) area, the company will strengthen the operation and management of compliance systems and establish a separate organization to advance the internal accounting management system.
Meanwhile, as of the end of last year, CJ Foodville achieved a disability employment rate of 4.2%, exceeding the mandatory disability employment rate of 3.1% by 35%. This figure is about three times the domestic ratio of regular workers with disabilities, which was 1.49% as of 2021.
