The United States announced an additional security assistance package worth $325 million (approximately 431.9 billion KRW) for Ukraine, including ammunition and anti-tank weapons.
On the 19th (local time), the U.S. Department of Defense stated that it would provide additional support focusing on ammunition and shells for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) essential for strengthening Ukraine's defense, as well as anti-tank capabilities. The support items include additional ammunition for HIMARS, 155mm and 105mm shells, optical tracking and TOW anti-tank missiles, anti-tank mines, AT-4 anti-tank weapon systems, obstacle-clearing bombs, and more than 9 million rounds of small arms ammunition.
Additionally, four logistics support vehicles and diagnostic equipment for vehicle maintenance and repair will also be provided.
The Department of Defense said, "The United States will continue to work with allies and partners to provide Ukraine with the capability to meet immediate battlefield requirements and long-term security assistance needs."
Secretary of State Tony Blinken also stated in a press release, "We will continue to stand with our partners against Russia's ongoing war of aggression," emphasizing, "This support will enable Ukraine to continue defending itself against Russia's brutal and unjust war."
He added, "Russia can end the war today," and "Until Russia does so, the United States, its allies, and partners will stand with Ukraine for as long as necessary."
Ukraine is reportedly preparing for a spring counteroffensive operation in some eastern and southern regions currently occupied by Russia.
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said at a briefing that Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent visit to the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia "appears to be a sign that they know their situation is not good. Putin seems very clearly aware of that."
She continued, "We have made it clear and will continue to say that Russia's claims over Ukraine's sovereign territory are not legitimate," emphasizing, "That is why we continue to support Ukraine."
