Support of 3.99 Million KRW for Solar Panel Installation on Detached Houses... Daegu City Accepts Applications on a First-Come, First-Served Basis

Total of 5.96 million won

On the 19th, Daegu City announced that for detached houses and apartment buildings located within the region, when installing solar power, solar thermal, geothermal, etc. through the government's '2023 Renewable Energy Housing Support Project,' it will provide additional support for part of the installation cost beyond the government subsidy to expand the distribution of eco-friendly energy and reduce the self-pay burden of installers.

The 'Renewable Energy Housing Support Project' is a government initiative aiming to distribute renewable energy to 1 million houses by providing partial installation cost subsidies through the Korea Energy Agency for households installing renewable energy facilities such as solar power, solar thermal, and geothermal in detached and apartment houses. Daegu City has been supporting subsidies for renewable energy distribution annually in connection with the government project.

From 2004 to 2022, Daegu City supported installation costs for renewable energy facilities (solar power/thermal, geothermal, fuel cells) for 4,313 households, with solar power installations accounting for the majority at 4,011 households (93%) among them.

The support amount per household provided by Daegu City this year is 1.19 million KRW for solar power (3 kW), 1.5 million KRW for solar thermal (under 20㎡), 2 million KRW for geothermal (under 17.5 kW), and 3.5 million KRW for fuel cells (under 1 kW), securing a project budget of 420 million KRW to provide subsidies.

Citizens wishing to apply for the Renewable Energy Housing Support Project must first select an energy source suitable for their house, sign an installation contract with a selected company announced on the Korea Energy Agency (Green Home) website, receive project approval from the Energy Agency, and then apply for the city subsidy. Daegu City accepts applications on a first-come, first-served basis, and after completion of installation and verification (by the Energy Agency), the subsidy is paid.

For a 3 kW solar power system, the total installation cost in 2023 is 5.96 million KRW. With a government subsidy of 2.8 million KRW and a Daegu City subsidy of 1.19 million KRW, the self-pay amount is 1.97 million KRW. For a household with a usage of 350 kWh/month, there is an expected annual electricity bill reduction of about 710,000 KRW, allowing the self-pay amount to be recovered within three years, which is expected to have a significant effect on reducing citizens' energy costs.
